RELEASE: Summer meals for kids and teens to be provided by SNOWFLAKE UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT No. 5 Contact: Melanie Self at 928-536-4156 Snowflake, Arizona May 1, 2024 – As part of its efforts to ensure kids have access to healthy meals during the summer months, Snowflake Unified School District No. 5 is pleased to announce its summer meals site will be serving kids and teens. Starting on May 28th 2024 Monday-Thursday, all kids and teens 18 and under can receive meals free of charge, no registration needed, at Snowflake Intermediate School. All summer school programs will be held at Snowflake Intermediate School, so we will be offering both GRAB & GO and congregate meals (on-site in the cafeteria). We are dedicated to still serving children and the community, and we plan to serve breakfast from 7:30 AM to 8:30 AM, and Lunch will be served 11:30 AM- 1:00 PM. For kids who rely on school meals, summer can be the hungriest time of year, and hunger has short- and long-term consequences for a child’s health, education and well-being. Making sure kids and teens have access to nutritious summer meals is especially important this summer. The Summer Meals program is funded by the USDA and run by school districts and local organizations, and sites can be found throughout the community. We’re always happy to see you at Snowflake Intermediate School, but there may be more convenient locations closer to you. Families can text “FOOD” or “COMIDA” to 304-304 and type in a zip code to find nearby summer meals sites, along with operating days and times. No application, registration or proof of residency or citizenship is required at sites. Visit SUSD5.ORG to learn more. Snowflake Unified District

SJHS will have a track meet Thursday, April 25th. The boy's qualifier will be hosted at Snowflake High School. Our faculty will help run the events. As a result, we will have a shortened schedule. Students will go to all of their classes before lunch. Girls track will release at 10:30 for BlueRidge and boys track will release at 11:00 to get their lunch and board buses. The remainder of the students will remain on campus in Study Hall rooms. Buses will run on a regular schedule. If you do not want your student to stay, you can sign them out between 11:45 and 12:30 so they don’t miss instruction. If you have any questions, please contact the office at 928-536-4156 ext 7310. Thank you.

SJHS We would like to thank you for your patience and cooperation as we have worked through our construction. We are still finalizing a few things but with our new pavement, we can move our parent pick-up and drop-off into 2 lanes. As always please be cautious and courteous drivers. Encourage your students to look both ways before they cross the street. Thank you for your support.

SJHS November 8, 2023, we will hold a patriotic program at the Junior High. This will be presented by the American Legion Chaplain, Jim Cahill. We would like to encourage student involvement by creating a Veteran Wall. We request students, parents, or staff submit a copy of a picture of a Veteran in their family. This can be submitted through email or to the office. Please also provide the following information: the Veteran's Full Name, Branch of Service, Dates of Service, and who the Veteran is related to from the school. SJHS Information W.E.B. Where Everyone Belongs August 8, 2023 12-4 PM We have incorporated WEB as a way to help develop leadership skills and also help students to feel a part of our LOBO pack. It is an opportunity to receive information and learn skills on how to be successful at Snowflake Junior High. Incoming 7th-grade students will meet in the gym at the Junior High. 8th-grade WEB leaders lead them in team-building activities, will teach them skills for success at the Jr. High, give them a tour of the school, and introduce them to new friends. Papers will be given to the students to take home with them. Students will have identified words of wisdom that they can use for success at the Jr High. They will also write a list of their leaders and group members that will hopefully become new friends. This activity is not required. If you do not want your student to attend they do not have to.
